BJJ Belts

A BJJ belt should stay tied, feel comfortable and stand up to years of training.

Our Humble Fightwear Cotton BJJ Belts are made from durable cotton and designed to give you the ideal balance between strength, flexibility and comfort.

Our Kids BJJ Belts feature a 3mm thickness, making them lightweight, flexible and easy for younger athletes to tie.

Our Adult BJJ Belts feature a 4mm thickness, providing a more substantial feel while remaining flexible and easy to wrap, tighten and tie.

Designed with lasting colour and built for regular training, rolling and competition, these belts are made to be there for every session, stripe and promotion along the way.

BJJ Belt FAQ

What is the order of BJJ belts?

For adults, the standard Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu belt progression is:

White → Blue → Purple → Brown → Black

Children follow a more detailed ranking system, which includes white, grey, yellow, orange and green belt groups before progressing into the adult belt system.

How do you tie a BJJ belt?

Start by placing the belt around your waist and wrapping it around twice. Bring both ends to the front, pass one end underneath the layers around your waist and pull it through.

Finish by tying the two ends together in a secure knot.

Your belt should be firm enough to help keep your Gi jacket closed without feeling excessively tight. A flexible belt can also make getting a secure knot easier—which is why our belts are designed to provide durability without unnecessary bulk.

What do the stripes on a BJJ belt mean?

Stripes generally represent progression within your current BJJ belt rank.

Students can typically receive up to four stripes before being promoted to their next belt. Stripes may recognise improvements in technical ability, knowledge, consistency, experience and overall development.

There isn't one universal standard for earning stripes. Your instructor or academy determines when stripes and belt promotions are awarded.

Is a thick or thin BJJ belt better?

Neither is automatically better—it comes down to comfort, durability and personal preference.

A very thick belt can feel substantial and hold its shape well, but it may also be stiffer and harder to tie. A thinner belt tends to be more flexible and easier to get into a secure knot.

That's why we've chosen different thicknesses for kids and adults.

Our Kids BJJ Belts are 3mm thick, giving younger athletes a lighter, more flexible belt that's easy to handle and tie.

Our Adult BJJ Belts are 4mm thick, providing additional substance and durability while still being flexible enough to tie comfortably.

The result is a BJJ belt designed to feel right around your waist, stay secure during training and last through the journey to your next rank.
