Inside the CJI Trials: Luke Francis Reflects on an Unforgettable Day at Absolute MMA

This past weekend, I had the chance to attend the CJI Australia and Oceania Trials held at Absolute MMA in St Kilda, and let me tell you—it was an experience I won’t forget anytime soon.
The moment I stepped into the gym, the energy was undeniable. The mats were surrounded by some of the best names in Australian grappling, and it felt like every corner of the gym held someone who's either a seasoned competitor or a rising threat. The place was absolutely packed, buzzing with intensity and anticipation. It was one of those days where you knew something special was going to happen.
Adding to the vibe was the ever-charismatic Bobby Sandhu on the mic, keeping the energy high and the laughs rolling. At one point, Bobby joked over the speakers that anyone who parked out the front of the gym would get towed. My heart sank. I sprinted outside, reparked the car Siraj’s lent me ten minutes away, and jogged back in, only to find out it was all a joke. Classic Bobby.
But beyond the laughs, the day was about showcasing heart and talent, and our Humble Fightwear athletes brought both in full force.

Tito Carle once again proved why he’s one of the most athletic heavyweights in the country. He moved with fluidity and control, constantly looking for the finish. Every time he stepped onto the mats, the crowd leaned in, knowing they were about to see something special.

Siraj Soufi fought with relentless pressure and composure, navigating a stacked bracket with confidence and grit. It’s always impressive to see how calm he remains, even in the most chaotic scrambles. His movement, timing, and decision-making were top-tier.
And Bob Frias... Bob showed the kind of performance that makes you proud to be in his corner. He left it all on the mats, showing heart in every exchange and never once backing down. Win or lose, Bob's character and presence make him a standout every time.

It was a day full of action, laughter, nerves, and pride. To witness our athletes out there representing what Humble Fightwear is all about was a reminder of why we do this. We respect the process, and we support the people willing to walk it.

Until the next one.
